In the summer of 2003 I’d left the nest of my home in Dryden, NY and drove my VW golf out to Jackson, WY to begin an internship with Teton Gravity Research. I’d lived in Jackson for about a decade and worked on a ton of fun projects with TGR and Brain Farm, but eventually went freelance and relocated to Cardiff By The Sea, CA.
While living here, I fell in love with sunny weather, surfing and the art of shaping surfboards. It’s been more than ten years since I worked on a TGR project and it was an amazing honor to get the call from Jeremy Jones to work on Life Of Glide! Especially because the project involved blending some of my favorite things in life with some of my SD friends like Chris Christenson. After the project was finished I even treated myself to a new 5’6″ Christenson Fish with glass on fins!
Helping edit this film was definitely a highlight of my year and the finished product is a nice reminder that we all need to enjoy living in the moment.
Last year Death Cookie was contracted to create, produce, shoot, and edit a Public Service Announcement for The NAMM Foundation. We teamed up with Found Sound Nation which was hosting 12 Street Studios during Make Music New York on International Make Music Day (June 21st).
We’d decided to focus on three of the locations and setup a Cinematographer (Tate MacDowell, Ora Dekornfeld and Jesse Brown) at each Street Studio. Each team of Music Producers was tasked with making an original track by the end of the day to be presented at an afterparty. However for the final PSA, we hand selected Lorna Dune and Keith Sweaty to create and original score using the samples that were created from the general public at those three locations to create one piece. The challenge was to make a final piece that allowed the audio to meld with the video. It was a team effort between Keith and Lorna and DCE Producer/Editor Tate MacDowell and took over 8 months to complete.
We hope that it inspires people to #JustPlay !
